Second Blog: Architectural Photography

"Straight/curved lines, patterns, colors, textures, and geometrical figures."

These are the elements of buildings that I admire and love to take pictures of. Every day, we wake up in a building. Then, we leave the building to visit different buildings. We do our things there and again, we come back to the building we had left earlier to take a rest. Architectural photography is just all about capturing these architectural structures we made from a different point of view. Of course, one can just capture it the way it is but, in order to make it a good one, we need to approach it from a different perspective and add some aesthetics into it. Here are some tips to add that aesthetics.

1. Study the structure

You first have to really 'study' the building you want to capture. Stand back to study the whole composition. Also, step closer to find lines and patterns you have missed. Dig out small details that might be interesting to examine. Take your time and understand the details.

2. Experiment with different angles

Do not just stand in front of a building and look straight at it. Move. Look at it from the bottom, left, right, and any new direction you can think of. You will be able to see new shapes and compositions.

3. Think about the lighting

In day times, sunlight is wonderful lighting to utilize. Understand the light and shadow. A simple change in lighting can create a whole different mood. In night times, use artificial lights or lights from the building itself.

4. Find the best angle

Try to find the best angle. Do not give up. Just a slight tilt of your camera can change the quality of your photo greatly. Utilize the grid in your camera to find the perfect moment to press the button.

5. Edit your photos

Editing is also an important part of photography. Find the best programs or applications that fit your editing style. The more you edit your photos, the better you will be aware of your own taste and style. Experiment with different tools and ask your friends if you aren't sure about your style.

I recommend Snapseed for quick and easy photo editing on your phone!
